It seems that even though the trifle that Geoff Metcalfe (Ian Bartholemew) is dead in Coronation Street does not mean that things will go forward for Yasmeen Nazir (Shelley King) – as he anxiously finds out next week.
Faced with a sharp reminder of his abuser when a guest at a restaurant asks him if he can book his magic act, Yasmeen and Alya (Sair Khan) conclude that it’s been a while since they’ve gotten rid of all the evidence that he’s ever been there.
Certainly a good idea, but they soon discover a lot of accounts for final demand and it becomes clear that Geoff has left them financially in a difficult situation.
Realizing how much Geoff owed before her death on the roof, Alya decides she should try to seek help – worried that her grandmother may not be able to cope with the extra stress after the year she just had.
Unfortunately, the news will only get worse, because when she talks to Imran Habeeb (Charlie De Melo), he reminds her that Yasmina’s legal fees are still extraordinary, which means her financial situation is even worse than they thought.
Wanting to let all concerned know that debts should not be Yasmeen’s responsibility, Alya desperately tries to find a way to help, but time seems to be running out. Bailiffs are coming down on her and while they agree on a repayment plan, Yasmeen may not be able to afford to stick to it.
Will she agree to Aly’s proposal to sell the community center to get funding or is there another way out of the mess she is in now?
There are also more complications along the way as Tim (Joe Duttine) experiences a shock when he hears about Geoff’s will. He got half of number 6 and a quarter of Speed Daal and is now in an awkward position. What will Tim do and how will Yasmeen and Alya react when they hear the news?
