Why is Pauline Quirke in Feather Christmas Birds not special?

The beloved sitcom “Birds of Feathers” is back this Christmas, and Tracey (Linda Robson) and Dorien (Lesley Joseph) are returning to our screens after a three-year absence.

Unfortunately, Pauline Quirke, who plays Tracey’s sister and key member of the trio Sharon Theodopolopodous – is missing in the cast of “Birds of Feathers” this acting season – but why is she absent from the upcoming special performance?

Here’s everything we know so far about why Pauline Quirke is missing a feather Christmas bird special and how the show will explain Sharon’s absence.

Why is Pauline Quirke in Feather Christmas Birds not special?

According to ITV, Pauline Quirke will not return to Feather Birds for the upcoming Christmas special, as she is “stepping away from acting to focus on her 200 national academies of performing arts.”

I’m talking to RadioTimes.com, Quirke’s husband and producer Steve Sheen said Quirke, with the closure of the academy for six months due to COVID, “felt that her focus should have been on rebuilding the brand and business, giving so many children confidence in life.”

Quirke, who played Sharon in Birds of a Feather from 1989 to 1998 and again from 2014 to 2017, opened the first Pauline Quirke Academy of Performing Arts branches across the UK along with her husband Sheen in 2007.

Since then, actress Emmerdale has opened academies in over 200 locations, and students studied comedy, drama, musical theater, film and television during lectures on weekends.

How do Feather Birds explain Sharon’s absence?

In the Christmas episode, viewers will learn that Sharon “escaped to the other side of the world” and found herself stuck on a COVID-infected cruise – hence why she is unable to keep Tracey and Dorien at the celebrations in Essex.

In one episode, Linda Robson and Lesley Joseph reprise their roles as Tracey Stubbs and Dorien Green, former neighbors and friends who “fit into each other’s nonsense” since Sharon embarked on her cruise.

Although Pauline Quirke will not appear on the special show, such as Les Dennis, Ami Metcalf and Curtis Walker will be guests in her absence.
