FIFA President Gianni Infantino traveled to the capital of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, Nouakchott, for an audience with the President of the Republic, Mohamed Cheikh El Ghazouani. “Talks with President Mohamed Cheikh El Ghazouani have been very positive and we are pleased to see his strong support for the development of football, not only in Mauritania but also across the Sahel region,” Gianni Infantino said. “The president has pledged to be a strong partner in football and there is evidence that everyone can see them. By hosting the CAF U20 Cup of Nations, Mauritania has shown the ability to host not only local competitions, but also continental tournaments, which is a key factor in the domestic development of football. “
The FIFA President also took the opportunity to visit the Stade Cheikha Ould Boïdiya, which has been completely restored through FIFA funding. Officially opened by the FIFA President in 2019, this return visit allowed the FIFA President to see the final product of the renewal process. This included an overview of the new facilities, including a restaurant, cafeteria and merchandise store, both of which enhances the fan experience and provides an important source of revenue for FFRIM, as well as expanding seating capacity from 6,000 to 8,200.
