The Fearless-era story of romantic misery was written in 2008 about a man who says all the right things at the right time, before he meets “The Lord of the Heart Change” just before he breaks hers. A few former Swift lists from the A-list came to my mind as inspiration for a mysterious man, mostly Joe Jonas. Despite his wife Sophie Turner’s praise for a bop that may be inappropriate for her beauty, Swifties linked the lyrics to “Mr. Perfectly Fine,” “Mr.‘ He looked me in the eye and told me you would never leave ’” to two of her previous songs about Jonas: She Fearless the song “Forever and Always” (“You looked me in the eye and told me you loved me / Were you just kidding?”) and her Speak now the song “The Last Kiss” (“You told me you loved me / So why did you leave?”). In addition, the timetable coincides with two dates from July to October 2008.
When promoting the original Fearless record 13 years ago Ellen DeGeneres Show, Swift threw Jonas under the bus detailing how he ended things with her. “I won’t even be able to remember the boy who broke up with me on the phone in 25 seconds when I was 18,” she told the show’s host. Swift returned to the DeGeneres program in May 2019 and described the “most rebellious thing” she did as a teenager, and that was “putting Joe Jonas in an explosion on your show.”
The Invisible Wire in the Swift Universe also connects the lyrics between the new song and “All Too Well” from her 2012 album. Red. The refrain “Mr. Perfect” includes the line “Hello sir, casually cruel,” which resembles the bridge “Everything is too good” when he sings, “And you call me again just to break me as a promise / So casually cruel in the name of sincerity. “It was rumored that” All Too Good “was about her ex Jake Gyllenhaal, with whom she dated from October 2010 to January 2011.
The Grammy winner could also be the subject of the song: John Mayer, whom Swift reportedly dated from December 2009 to February 2010. The text pointing in his direction immediately follows the one that hints at Gyllenhaal in the chorus: ‘Sir, it’s all about you.’ “That line goes back to her Speak now the song “Dear John” that begins with the lyrics, “There were long nights when / My days once revolved around you.” Some even found the title “Perfect” in the title of her latest release to the title of Mayer’s song “Perfectly Lonely” which was found on his 2009 album Battles, which also features a collaboration with Swift called “Half My Heart”.
In short, here are fan theories that link Jonas, Mayer, and Gyllenhaal to “Mr. Perfectly Fine”:
