Just as Olivier Giroud (reportedly) decided to stay at Chelsea in January, he was linked with a new team in the January transfer window. According to the exclusive Mirror, the 34-year-old is on West Ham radar for a transition period that should open next week.
The Hammers are having a pretty good season – despite a 3-0 defeat at Bridge on Monday – but they could certainly take advantage of help in the goal-scoring department if they want to stay at the top of the table rather than slide down as we head into the new year.
Sebastian Haller has not lived up to expectations from his record-breaking 45-meter dash – just 10 goals in 44 Premier League appearances – and versatile Michail Antonio, who is now on the wrong side of 30, always seems to be dealing with injuries, including currently.
Giroud has more goals this season than Haller and Antonio combined, in much less minutes, though unlikely to continue to play a big role for the Blues as they did before Monday’s game. That might sway him if the Hammers really knock, though Lampard will also certainly try to convince him to stay.
