WATCH: MMA legend Demetrius Johnson KO’d an evil legal knee in ONE fight

For the first time in nearly a decade, mixed martial arts giant Demetrious Johnson lost the fight without controversy. Johnson battled ONE flyweight champion Adriano Moraes at the ONE main event on TNT on Wednesday night, while Moraes entered the night as a massive +540 outsider against the former longtime UFC champion.

Despite long odds, Moraes retained the championship in Singapore’s Kallang, after scoring a TKO in the second round. Johnson was in trouble in the opening round, found himself overwhelmed on the ground after Moraes pulled the guard, threatened with a heel hook and moved to the top position to control the round. In the second round, Johnson tried to keep the fight going, but things quickly went awry.

Moraes landed with a shortcut that lowered Johnson to the canvas. Moraes followed the ground and dropped his knee to Johnson’s face, lowering it back onto the canvas before the fight was stopped after a final rush of blows from the champions.

A knee would be illegal in the UFC, but in ONE, knee and football blows to the head of a downed fighter are legal, going back to the days of PRIDE and other major Asian MMA promotions.

Johnson was sent to ONE in October 2018 in the first trade in UFC history, and the UFC in turn received the services of then ONE light heavyweight champion Ben Askren. The trade came after Johnson lost his flyweight championship to Henry Ceyud by a controversial separation decision at UFC 227.

Moraes is the first man in history to stop Johnson, who now holds a 30-4-1 record.
