The board game Rock ‘Em Sock’ Em Robots will be filmed in a live action film with Vin Diesel, Universal has revealed.
The 1966 game involves two plastic boxers, one red, one blue, with players wanting to bounce the head off an opposing player.
The screenplay, written by Ryan Engle, will follow the story of a father and son creating a connection to an advanced war machine.
“Taking the classic Rock ‘Em Sock’ Em game, with Mattel as my partner, and aligning it with the kind of global build and franchise success we’ve achieved with Universal is really exciting,” Diesel he said.
Diesel is known for his roles in XXX, Chronicles Of Riddick and Guardians of the Galaxy, as well as for appearing in the films Fast and Furious.
The adaptation of the game is part of a growing list of movies based on Mattel’s toys.
Margot Robbie is set to star in an upcoming Barbie movie, and rapper Lil Yachty is set to appear in a film about the fast-paced Uno card game.
There is also a live-action version of Barney in the works, starring Oscar-nominated Daniel Kaluuya.
