Panic reigned in Maiduguri, the capital of the state of Borno, on Tuesday, as multiple sources reported shootings and explosions near the state of Gomari in the state.
Sources say explosions were also heard in the Mairi area, a student village near Maiduguri University.
The military is said to have set up gunboats in the area, as earlier reports indicated that worshipers at a mosque on a street called “Layin Bori” may have been killed.

This is the first attack on the city of Maiduguri in a long time and this may not be related to the constant attacks on the rebels on the axis of the state of Sambis.
Ongoing attacks on Boko Haram strongholds in the past have forced rebels to regroup as they sometimes filter into cities or attack soft targets.
Television channels have noticed that an air patrol is currently underway as the army combs the marked area around the Gwange.
