Training sessions of the QB football team from Washington, Alex Smith, remain questionable with a calf injury

Washington football quarterback Alex Smith trained fully for the first time after straining his right calf and was listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Caroline Panthers.

Washington’s practice was closed to the media, but according to a source Smith took a decent amount of repetition at the start. It was another sign of progress for Smith. He was limited on Thursday, but coach Ron Rivera said he was encouraged that Smith could turn down his passes. However, he must also show that he can dodge bumps and use his legs to the fullest if necessary.

If Smith was healthy, he would start with Dwayne Haskins Jr. in a game that could help them conquer NFC East. If the New York Giants lose to the Baltimore Ravens, Washington (6-8) would gain the division with a win Sunday.

The hard part for any quarterback is likely to be missing player Terry McLaurin. He was listed as a suspect due to an ankle injury that has plagued him for several weeks. Also, the return of Antonio Gibson (lawn) is listed as questionable; he missed the past two games and was limited in practice this week.

Rivera often said he better understands injured players the day after training, so Saturday could be a big day for Smith and the team. On Thursday, Rivera said he might not make a decision until Sunday morning. Smith injured a calf in the first half of the game on Dec. 13 against San Francisco, and endured the second half as well as last week’s 20-15 defeat by Seattle. It’s the same leg he broke in 2018, which is why he needed 17 surgeries and almost cost him his career.

Smith has started five games this season; Washington won four. In his starts, Smith scored three assists and three interceptions.

Haskins started against the Seahawks, nearly leading Washington to a win after falling 20-3. But it caused controversy for himself and the team this week when he was photographed in a hotel suite without a mask while he was at his girlfriend’s birthday party. The team fined him $ 40,000 and stripped him of his captaincy. Haskins got the bench after the first four games of this season.

In five starts, Haskins threw five touchdowns and five interceptions. Washington is 1-4 in those starts, with defeats from Arizona, Cleveland, Baltimore and Seattle.
