The Senate receives Buhari’s 2021 budget proposal for the Police Trust Fund

The Senate received a 2021 budget proposal for the Nigerian Police Trust Fund sent to it by President Muhammad Bukhari for consideration and adoption.

President Buhari’s request for the Senate to review the budget of the Police Trust Fund is contained in a letter accompanying the proposal and read out during the session by Senate President Senator Ahmad Lawan.

According to President Buhari in the letter, the request was submitted in accordance with the provisions of the Nigerian Police Trust Fund Act which provides for funding through a special intervention fund.

The letter read: “In accordance with Sections 4, 5 and 21 of the Law on the Establishment of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund 2019, I hereby forward the Nigerian Police Trust Fund budget proposal for 2021 for kind consideration and adoption by the Senate.

“Estimates of revenues and expenditures in the budget proposal for funds for 2021 are in line with the legal purpose of the provisions of the Police Trust Fund of Nigeria by providing funds through a special intervention fund for: training and retraining of Nigerian police forces to improve their skills and overall improvement, performance and efficiency in performing their duties as well as responsibilities;

“Procurement of state-of-the-art equipment, operational vehicles and other related facilities to improve the skills of Nigerian police forces in handling operational equipment;

“Construction of police stations, barracks and other living facilities of Nigerian police force personnel and their dependents; and Procurement of teaching materials and training equipment, as well as payment of the costs of participation of Nigerian police force personnel in seminars, conferences and other skills acquisition courses. “
