People’s Democratic Party (PDP) House of Representatives leader Kingsley Chinda said the party was lobbying members of the House and other Nigerians to push for the recall of President Muhammad Buhari.
The legislator representing the federal constituency Obio- / Akpor in the House of Representatives said this in a show on Nigeria Info 92.3FM on Wednesday in Port Harcourt, Rivers state.
Chinda said he would not apologize for an earlier call for the president’s impeachment, adding that based on the deteriorating security situation in the country, Bukhari should be removed.
Therefore, according to him, the call of the leader of the majority in the House, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, that he should be punished for calling for the start of impeachment proceedings against the President is an insult to the House of Representatives.
He said, “We are talking to our colleagues. We are also talking to Nigerians and asking Nigerians to talk to their representatives. Not what you want. If the people the leader of the House represents in Cannes gather and tell him (Doguwa) – ‘we want you to sign this recall notice, we are in support’, he will not have the right to do otherwise.
“Even where as an individual he is against, (there is no choice) except to obey the wishes of those who elected him, and that is what we do. We talk to Nigerians; we talk to our colleagues. When we are done with that, of course we will present a notice of revocation. If it flies, fine. If that doesn’t happen, no problem, it’s democracy. “
Speaking about his earlier call for impeachment proceedings against the president, he said, “I do not owe anyone an apology for the call to recall Mr. President. The leader of the House said that I was speaking on my own behalf, and not on the board of the PDP.
“I don’t know who he (Doguwa) is in contact with. The PDP also announced that this is the position of the party, and a spokesman for the PDP in the House will support the position of the PDP in the House. Why would a majority leader who is very experienced in parliamentary matters dance naked in public? “
Chinda remarked that Bukhari deserved to be ordered because of the way he handled security issues in the country, “That the president did not respect the provisions of Article 11 (4) of the Constitution. In particular Article 14 (2b). The main responsibility of every government is the safety of people’s lives and property.
“The government has failed miserably in this regard. What should we do? We called on the president to remove the heads of services and then bring in new people, perhaps for new ideas if that would improve the situation. He is the commander-in-chief, the money stops at his desk.
“I’d rather leave parliament than stay there and see the country collapse.”
Doguwa said disciplinary action should be taken against Chinda after he called for the president’s recall.
The leader of the majority, during Monday’s plenary session, said that Chinda does not represent the position of the PDP parliamentary club in the House and that he is acting alone.
He said the president’s decision not to heed the House’s call to appear before it followed was due to Chinda’s statements, which called for his impeachment, and concerns that the president would be embarrassed if he granted the invitation.
