Given how powerful smartphones have become today, people expect more from their devices and sometimes push them to the limit. Of course, this has consequences and the heat, along with battery life, is the biggest cost of heavily taxing smartphones. However, most of the time only the most extreme cases can really keep your phone hot to the point of becoming dangerous, but OnePlus 9 Pro owners seem to experience it more often than they should.
As with any unexpected behavior of new phones, the exact cause of this overheating problem has not yet been determined. Although widespread, it does not seem to affect all OnePlus 9 Pro owners. All that is certain for now is that there are dozens of OnePlus 9 Pro owners who are less than happy with how their hands feel.
It doesn’t take much to trigger a thermal problem with the OnePlus 9 Pro, but some seem to connect it to the camera. Of course, when the camera app detects a dangerously high temperature, it alerts the user and stops working until it falls. However, this is not consistent, and even the authors of Android Police themselves have had different experiences.
The website, however, also raises the question of whether the behavior is limited to the OnePlus 9 Pro, pointing out how some Snapdragon Galaxy S21 Ultras reportedly work as well. If so, Qualcomm could expect another Snapdragon 810 fiasco.
The bit good news is that OnePlus is obviously aware of the problem and marks it as a known problem. The update is also promised in the next few weeks, hopefully the OnePlus 9 Pro will experience the fate of the Galaxy Note 7.
