Sony has been a bit of those 2021 about the future of the PS5 so far, but that will change on Thursday when the company holds its next State of Play event.
According to a post just posted on PlayStation Blog, Sony says the event will run for approximately 30 minutes and will include updates and announcements for 10 upcoming independent and indie games on the PS4 and PS5.
Disappointingly, Sony says there will be no new PlayStation hardware or business-oriented updates on this show (which is a shame because the company just announced it is working on PSVR 2), nor does it mention third-party games like Horizon Forbidden West or the upcoming God of War in the event description.
The start of the event should be on Thursday, February 25, at 14:00 PST / 17:00 EST / 22:00 GMT, and Sony says that you will be able to watch the live broadcast on its official Twitch i YouTube channels. We will also embed live video streaming on TechRadar.
Will Sony address the real issues with the PS5? Or will he focus on building a hip?
The event could be a great opportunity for Sony to address the PlayStation Nation – its fan base who have shown immense interest in the PS5 while despising the lack of available consoles in the company. PS5 stock recovery is extremely limited. (See our PS5 purchase guide if you’re still looking.)
Still, based on the description, it looks like Sony won’t mention a shortage of supplies or scalpers for the PS5, instead focusing on building praise for the next round of independent titles and indie games that will come to the console later this year.
Admittedly, while the latter may sound selfish, it’s also something Sony desperately needs right now. The upcoming PS5 titles look strong for the next two months, but after that they start to fall sharply.
Sony’s announcement of the Play State event follows today’s news that Gran Turismo 7 will be delayed and that the company will release Ratchet & Clank for free for its upcoming Play at Home event starting March 1st.
