The Nigerian Centers for Disease Control said over 100 million people would receive the COVID-19 vaccine by March 2021.
This was stated by NCDC Director General Chikwe Ihekweazu as he spoke further Television channels Sunrise daily program on Thursday.
Ihekweazu expressed confidence in the COVID-19 vaccine, saying Nigeria has managed to eliminate polio and fight smallpox through vaccines.
He said, “No medical intervention, no one, has saved more lives since the beginning of humanity than vaccination. No great hospital, no surgery, no medicine, not even antibiotics, saved more lives than vaccines. We have just celebrated, between this pandemic, the elimination of polio in Nigeria. We have completely eliminated smallpox through human effort through vaccination. “
The Directorate General for NCDC said efforts are currently underway across the country to educate Nigerians about the benefits of vaccines.
He said, “We will work hard to educate Nigerians about the benefits of vaccines, the opportunity it gives us to return to our normal lives and that is what is currently happening in the country.
“By the time we get this vaccine, sometime in the first quarter of next year, there will be hundreds of millions of people who would have already received this vaccine.”
