The Samsung Galaxy S21 didn’t get the camera below the screen we wanted, but it looks like the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z fold 3 may feature a killer phone upgrade for 2021.
A short tweet from the leak The icy universe claims that the camera is below the screen, or as Samsung calls it, the camera below the panel (UPC), although it is connected to “very likely”.
Samsung has already teased UPC for laptops, so it’s only a matter of time before it gets to the Samsung phone, even if the final version of Z Fold 3 doesn’t end with one.

Previous rumors about new features for the Z Fold 3 also said that it would be usable with the S Pen. Since Samsung has just unveiled support for the S Pen on the Galaxy S21 Ultra, and the fate of the Galaxy Note line after the Galaxy Note 21 looks shaky, it would make sense for Samsung to add pen support to this upcoming flagship.
If you haven’t seen what I can control the cameras below the screen, check out our ZTE Axon 20 5G review, which is the world’s first phone with this feature. It’s not yet at the level of normal selfie cameras with holes or notches, but over time this is likely to become the standard for all smartphones.
The Z Fold 3 could be expected in September, a year after the Z Fold 2. However, other rumors point to a new Samsung that could be folded in May this year. It could be Z Fold 3, but it could also be a different folding one. Finally, there is also talk that we will get the Galaxy Z Flip 3 this year, as well as a new cheaper foldable one that can be called the Galaxy Z Fold Lite.
We would expect the Z Fold 3 to become one of our choices for the best folding assemblies, although there is still not much competition for Samsung in this segment. Huawei has a new Huawei Mate X2 launching on February 22 in China, but the company still faces the challenge of not having access to the Google Play store.
