The forest sequel is coming in 2021

Most survival games have an element of horror, giving us an inhuman hunger that will kill us if we don’t eat a three-course meal every five minutes. I love jokes. The forest is having a hard time heading towards horror, as we are followed by cannibals and mutants, and the sequel to the story-driven survival game looks just as miraculous. The developers of Endnight Games have announced that they plan to release Sons Of The Forest in 2021 and have shared a new trailer that shows what awaits us in the trees. I don’t like what I like.

A few things:

  1. Is this a friendly mutant? (I would be half prone to guessing hallucinations, just because of the horror.)
  2. I like animations and effects for making and building. Ejecting that part of the log for the window is a corpse stain.
  3. I’m glad the villains still have a slow, cautious, thoughtful pace. Circling is so much scarier than charging.
  4. Also great: a guy is trying to steal one of our logs. They’re trying to survive out here too. A guy who is afraid to die is just awful.
  5. But, man, I really don’t like what we seem to be disguising as one of them with, uh, a mask. He will have the absolute fear of seeing the mask at the most inconvenient time.

Forest first entered early access in 2014, finally being fully launched in 2018. Our former John (RPS in peace) called it “a huge achievement and a horror survival game that somehow manages to keep these two elements surprisingly separate, and yet let each imposed on the other in very interesting ways ”in his review The Forest. It was still a little raw, but Endnight continued to patch up, including adding VR support. Years later, we still say it’s one of the best survival games. Oh, hey, that’s half the price in winter steam sales.
