The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Saddique Abubakar, celebrated Christmas at a lunch with the troops of the Air Operations Forces “Operation Lafiya Dole” in Maiduguri on Friday.

Speaking on that occasion, Abubakar said that the gesture was to fill the vacuum created as a result of the troops’ inability to celebrate with their families.

“This opportunity also encourages camaraderie and gives us opportunities to brag about our collective efforts in the ongoing fight against the insurgency.

“It is not easy to quantify your huge contribution and sacrifice in the war against the uprising.

“Christmas celebration is all about sacrifice. As victims of the military, our sacrifices for the unity of Nigeria remain immeasurable.

“We are all aware of the enormous responsibility we bear in ensuring the indivisibility of our dear country,” Abubakar said.

He called on troops to stay vigilant and concentrated, reiterating their commitment to repositioning the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) for an efficient, effective and timely deployment of the air force in response to national security challenges.

He praised President Muhammad Buhari for providing NAF with the necessary resources to carry out the assigned duties.

“I want to use this opportunity to appreciate the support of the members of the National Assembly committee in NAF.

“I assure you that all approved resources have been used reasonably,” he said.

In his address, the commander of the Air Force, Air Force Commodore Abubakar Abdulkadir, who described lunch as one of the many gestures of the Air Force chief in raising the morale and spirit of the troops in the front line, assured the troops to be assigned tasks.

“Your presence here to greet us, despite your busy schedule, demonstrates your continued commitment to the well-being and well-being of the Air Task Force troops,” Abdulkadir said.

In his remark on behalf of the Borno government, Alhaji Deputy Governor Umar Kadafur praised the effective role of the NAF and other security agencies in bringing peace to the country and assured the government of its commitment to working with them for lasting peace in the country.
