Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike and Edo Deputy Governor, Lt. Col. Philip Shaibu, along with Nigerian Olympic Committee (NOC) President Engr Habu Gumel, have been nominated for the Sportsville Awards, to be held in Lagos on January 30, 2021. .
A Lagos-based media house, Sportsville, issued a statement in Lagos yesterday to pay tribute to sports gurus.
Sportsville Chairman of the Board, Hon Frank Ilaboya, who signed the statement, said the awards are a way for Sports-villas to appreciate those who do well to raise Nigerian sport to greater heights, although he added that the awards will be an annual event to excellence in sports development, promotion and performance.
According to him, “We are coming out with this special award as a way to recognize excellence and encourage those who do well in Nigerian sports to do more for the country. These would be annual events, ”Ilaboya said.
He listed others who were charged for receiving the awards, including Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) President Amaya Melvin Pinnick and his Nigerian Basketball Federation (NBBF) counterpart Engr Musa Kida.
The list also includes NWFL chairwoman Aisha Falode; President Enyimbe, Felix Anyansi Agwu; Chairman Monimichelle, Nigeria’s leading stadium construction equipment, Abi Egbe; veteran sports journalist with media icon, etc. Larry Izamoje of Brill FM; and Super Eagles fans number one, dr. Rauf Ladipo.
Ilaboya said the program of the event is already being run on various radio and TV stations across Lagos and the surrounding area, and on national television stations, adding that the first ceremony will be used in honor of some highly respected Nigerians who have contributed to the country’s sport.
