“We don’t have a concrete plan yet,” Vinciquerra said. “But we have a program within the company called One Sony … You will see a much greater integration of Sony companies together.”He then discussed Sony developing three movies and seven TV shows based on PlayStation games, but did not go so far as to say whether Uncharted and the TV series The Last of Us were included in that number.
Vinciquerra also discussed whether Sony would follow the example set by Warner Bros. and potentially move to a day and date release model for cinemas and streaming services.
“I don’t think we’re going to deal with issuing days and dates, no,” Vinciquerra replied. “I think that the economic model of films with a very large budget requires windows that are now underway and we will continue to do so … We believe that 30-day windows are probably the best, they will allow us to amortize marketing through two windows – theater and home entertainment – so we think that’s the way to go. “
PlayStation Productions was launched in 2019, and Sony said the new studio is “already in the production phase on its first projects and has opened a store on Sony Studios in Culver City” and has taken a lot of inspiration from Marvel Studios.
