Tianwen-1 arrived at its destination on February 10 – the day after the UAE’s Hope spacecraft entered orbit.
Going on Twitter, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, said: “Congratulations to China on the success of the Mars mission, while the Tianwen-1 mission has reached Mars. Congratulations to Chinese President Xi Jinping .
The Chinese mission will see it land from a rover and collect data on groundwater and possible signs of ancient life, state media said. If all goes as planned, the rover will detach from the spacecraft in a few months and try to land.
The United States will try to land its Perseverance rover on the surface of Mars this week. Only the United States has successfully touched Mars – eight times, starting with two Viking missions. Lander and rover are in operation today.
