Robert Pattinson, star of Matt Reeves Batman, deals with the pressure that comes with playing an iconic masked wake-up call. Pattinson is perhaps best known for his role as Edward Cullen in Twilight franchise, which is why many were initially surprised when he was chosen as Bruce Wayne. However, they probably weren’t familiar with his stellar performances in acclaimed indie films like Good weather i Lighthouse. Ever since he got the role of Caper Crusader, Pattinson has starred in Christopher Nolan Tenet, which many had hoped would be a massive summer hit, but its theatrical performance was marred by a coronavirus pandemic.

Like many productions that took place in 2020, Batman experienced numerous delays after filming began in January. For starters, Warner Bros. was forced to shut down production in March due to COVID-19. After resuming production, the film faced even more delays, one of which was reportedly the result of Pattinson’s virus testing. Some unfounded rumors also suggest that production was shut down because Pattinson was not in the right shape for the role. After a long journey, Batman finally finished filming last month.

In an interview for 2019 NPR, Pattinson faces the pressure that comes with playing Batman, especially in terms of film marketing. When promoting many of his previous films, Pattinson says no one cared what he said about them, but he had a completely different experience with Batman. “Every time I say one sentence about Batman, I insult a multitude of Batman fans, “Pattinson says. I mean, I have a lot of thinking. Well, it’s funny, like, to work – I’ve made so many movies where, you know, I play these kinds of partially monster characters. And whenever I’ve promoted them, you know, normally, no one cares what you say about it. And I just noticed every time I say one sentence about Batman, there’s this massively – I insult a lot of Batman fans. But, I mean, somehow – I mean, the interesting thing about Batman itself is that you basically can – it was played in so many different ways. Comics cover so much space. Movies cover so much space. I mean, if you go that way – if you’re trying to play a historically accurate Batman, I mean, you could literally play anything. Well I guess that’s kind of what Matt Reeves is directing and he kind of wants to go.

After Christian Bale and Ben Affleck, Pattinson will be the last to wear a robe and blanket on the big screen. As these actors can probably attest, playing Batman comes with a lot of pressure, especially since there are several generations of fans who have different opinions about how the character should be portrayed. Although some have suggested that Pattinson did not take the role seriously because he refused to put on a ton of muscle, Pattinson seems to be fully committed to the role and Reeves ’vision. Based on the announcement, it looks like Reeves ’film will be rougher with more focus on the detective side Batman.

There are certainly many serious superhero fans who are not afraid to let their voices be heard. Since Batman is one of the most popular comic book characters of all time, Pattinson is likely to be the target of more rage from hardcore fans because Batman approaching its release. It is too early, however, to predict the critical reactions and reactions of the audience to the film, so Pattinson’s performance will still end up winning some trouble.
