Nick Vannett, a former solid Steelers player, has found another home in the NFL, signing a three-year deal with the New Orleans Saints, according to Mike Garafolo of the NFL.
Vannett spent the 2020 season in Denver, recording just 14 catches for 95 yards in 15 games. He was released by the Broncos last week. The 28-year-old Ohio state product, nicknamed “Baby Gronk” because of its size, now hopes to find a team to stay with the Saints for a few years.
The Saints will be Vannett’s fourth NFL team as it enters its 6th season in the league. The Vannet was traded by the Seahawks, who drafted him with 94th pick in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft, in Pittsburgh in the middle of the 2019 season. He caught 13 passes for 128 yards while at the Steelers.
Vannett’s attempt to revive his career will now come with the Saints franchise entering Drew Brees ’office following a future announcement of retirement last month. Taysom Hill should be the starter of the Saints for the 1st week of the 2021 season. Vannett’s best singles season came in 2018 when he posted 29 receptions for 269 yards and 3 touchdowns.
