… He opposes the police because of the participation of IPOB
Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State said some aggrieved politicians were behind recent attacks on police stations and the state correctional facility.
He said the politicians’ goal is to destabilize the administration of the Congress of All Progressives (APC).
The governor spoke yesterday on Politics Today, Channels Television.
He said: “What happened in the state of Imo last Monday is incredible. A group of hooligans, sponsored by some prominent politicians in the state of Imo, decided to destroy public infrastructure and government facilities – and attacked the correctional center, as well as the state police headquarters.
“But what is important to take home is that Nigerians know about the conspiracy of a group of aggrieved politicians to destabilize the APC government. I have conducted a thorough investigation and I have a credible lead to those who sponsor the activities of these bums.
“We are working hard to ensure that sponsors of this underlying work must be reserved.”
The governor also said that members of the banned indigenous population of Biafra (IPOB) were not behind the attack.
Police said earlier that the Eastern Security Network (ESN), an IPOB suit, was behind the violence in the country.
But Uzodimma said the hoodlums were engaged outside the state of Imo, noting that they were only pretending to be members of the IPOB.
He said: “They (politicians) are trying to identify people’s complaints in a particular area. They hire bums outside the state of Imo. They bring them in pretending to be IPOB, they commit this crime and leave.
“It’s not a matter of IPOB. Yes, we agree, we have damaged IPOB members. But I can tell you, those who are doing these destructions, most of them were brought outside the state of Imo. “
The governor said his administration has trained over 4,000 youth to work in community policing. He said he would work with vigilantes to support security agencies ’efforts to secure Imo State.
