The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a kidnapping union member who abducted Jumoke Oludele, the younger sister of an incumbent member of the Oyo State House, Mr. Sunkanmi Babalola.
Oludele was said to have been abducted Monday at the Oniguguru crossroads, next to the Lion of Judah Church, Monatan, an area of Iya Church in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, as she was returning from her shop.
Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, Mr. Nwachukwu Enwon, revealed on Friday that one of the suspected kidnappers had been arrested.
Babalola, who currently represents the state constituency of Egbeda in the state House of Assembly, said that in addition to the warning of the police, the family also launched a search to save the sister from the kidnappers.
CP, in a statement signed by police public relations officer Olugbenga Fadeyi on Friday, said the suspected kidnapper is currently being questioned to obtain useful information that could enable them to release Oludela.
The statement read, “One Jumoke Babalola Oludela, a 35-year-old woman, was abducted by unknown armed men as they were returning from their shop. One suspect was arrested after the Oyo Police Command Anti-Kidnapping Squad took action. The suspect is currently being questioned to obtain useful information.
“Efforts to rescue the hostages and also to arrest the perpetrators have intensified. Further development will take place soon. “
The source revealed that the kidnappers demanded a ransom of 20 million to ensure her release.
The victim’s brother said: “I was not there when the incident happened. They called me and told me that three gunmen had kidnapped my sister. They forced her into a waiting car and then drove away. “
