Police arrested 3 suspects for alleged fraud

The Katsina State Police Command said it had arrested three people who specialized in cheating people by threatening them with calls via mobile phones, posing as giants.

The command’s public relations officer, SP Gambo Isah, confirmed this in a statement Thursday in Katsina.

Isah said the suspects were Usman Adam (40); Abbas Ibrahim, 38; and Abdurrauf Iliyasu, 39; they all claimed to be from the state of Kano.

According to him, the enemy caught up with the suspects when they called one Jamila Sulejman from the village of Yargamji, Batagarawa local government area, and claimed they were jinn.

He said the suspects instructed their victim to go to a certain place on the outskirts of the village and drop the amount of 150,000 NN, otherwise her parents or children risk being killed by the giants.

“Out of fear, the victim took the money and threw it in that place according to the instructions of the fraudsters.

“Moreover, she transferred another N97,000 to the hoodlum account on their instructions. The attacks collected a total of N247,000 from her, “Isah said.

He said that the victim later reported the case to the police during the investigation; police managed to track down the suspects and arrest them.

“They have acknowledged command over crime and other similar crimes,” he said.

Isah advised the public to beware of people who could call via mobile phone and ordered them to carry out transactions, in order to avoid the victim of circumstances.
