The traditional ruler of the Umuezie community in Nguru in the area of the Aboh Mbaise council in Imo Eze, Charles Iroegbu, and seven members of his cabinet were abducted by armed men.
Eze Iroegbu was abducted Tuesday around 6pm along with members of his cabinet.
It was learned that the monarch and members of his cabinet were abducted while returning from a traditional wedding ceremony in the state of Ihitte-Uboma.
The incident caused anxiety and threw the entire community into deep sorrow as the monarch was described as a “charitable giver” who touched many lives in many communities across the state.
A source close to the traditional ruler, who spoke to The Nation on condition of anonymity, said the incident occurred at a popular seven-and-a-half intersection in the Obowo state.
On a ransom demand, the source said, “I’m not aware of any ransom demand yet.”
A member of the city union, who said he would not be named, confirmed the incident, saying the monarch and cabinet members were abducted by gangsters as they came from a traditional wedding.
Contacting, police spokesman Orlando Ikeokwu (SP) said he would get back to us, but he did not do so at the time of the report.
