If your living room is on the smaller side, the latest Panasonic soundtrack could perfectly match your home theater settings.
The Panasonic SC-HTB490 boasts a super slim design designed to fit under most TVs – although specifically the new Panasonic LED models from 2021, and can also be mounted on the wall if you want to save even more space.
According to the company, the HTB490 produces “a powerful sound that refutes its compact shape”. This is thanks to two full-range, forward-facing speaker units, which can deliver only 160 W of power, and are supported by two bass reflex ports that should enhance the lower frequencies of your music, movies and TV shows.
Add to that a wireless subwoofer, and the output power has grown to a total of 320 W – and without annoying cables you can place it anywhere in the room. Panasonic says using a small pad inside the subwoofer allows more space inside the speakers to make the sound resonate and add “truly epic tones” to the audio output.
Is it worth the money?
Wireless connectivity comes with Bluetooth, which means you can stream music from your device without the need for wires.
In addition, you also get an HDMI ARC port, optical input and a USB port so you can plug in a USB stick and play music. It’s not the most comprehensive list of connectivity options we’ve seen from the soundtrack, but the HTB490 is also cheaper than high-specific competitors like the Sonos Arc.
If availability is yet to be confirmed, the Panasonic HTB490 will refund you £ 349 when it goes on sale. It is hovering around $ 480/630 AUD, although global prices have yet to be announced.
If compact design and easy connectivity are at the top of the list of soundtracks, that price may be justified – although soundtracks with extra features like Dolby Atmos surround sound can be bought for less, and models like the Sony HT-X8500 potentially offer better value for money .
