The crisis that has shaken the People’s Democratic Party in the southwest has turned even worse as leaders of former Ekiti state governor Ayodele Fayose have instructed their members to stay away from a peace meeting convened by former Olagunsoye governor Oyinlola Osun State.
Fayose supporters are also said to have begun mobilizing support for the party’s former national vice president (southwest), Dr. Eddy Olafes, to come back.
This is contained in a statement issued at the end of the group’s meeting, held Tuesday in Akure, the capital of the state of Ondo. It was gathered that the meeting was chaired by former Governor Fayose.
The communiqués were signed by the Secretary of the Zone Transition, Mr. Daisi Akintan, and chairman of the parties in Osun, Ekiti, Lagos and Ogun, Mr. Sunday Bisi, boss Bisi Kolawole, Adedeja Doherty and others. Sikirulahi Ogundele.
The group, which instructed its members to stay away from invitations to any meeting convened by Oyinlola, said that “such a meeting is self-service and for personal gain.”
The statement read in part: “We have reviewed strategies and considered new party management tactics that will strategically improve and promote the growth and strength of the PDP in the Southwest Zone.
“For that purpose, it was finally agreed that the immediate past executive director of the zone, under the leadership of Dr. Eddy Olafes showed enough competence and honesty during his last term and as such was further supported, to return to governance through the next Zonal Congress.
“This puts all the leaders and the presidents of the states on standby and orders them to immediately start mobilization in their states for the next zonal congress.
“We are aware of the steps being taken to interfere in the list of delegates for the zone congress, so we use this opportunity to seriously warn the national secretary not to compromise in any way in fulfilling his responsibilities. .
“The National Working Committee is equally instructed to be interested in all actions designed to execute as we progress to the Zone Congress.”
