Borno Governor Babagana Zulum visited the headquarters of 151 battalions at the Banki junction in Bama on Tuesday and announced a Christmas package for each of the more than 700 soldiers and their officers, as Boko Haram does not defeat them.
Upon arrival, Zulum went to a closed-door meeting with the commander of the 21st Special Armored Brigade, Brig. General Waheed Shaibu and Commander of the 151st Battalion, Major A. A Umar, after which he addressed the troops.
“Based on correctness, I treat everyone or groups according to their merits. Although we have challenges in some areas, we have successes in others, and one of those areas is this 151st Battalion, because Boko Haram has never beaten you since its formation. This battalion has largely stabilized all areas under your jurisdiction here in Bama.
I am mostly here to express my gratitude on behalf of the government and people of the state of Borno, once again, as I have done here before, as I often do to other battalions and their brigades throughout the country. You were all very gallant and patriotic.
We acknowledge all your sacrifices and we also know that you all operate in difficult conditions at different operational locations. We came with our widows. Food will come your way and I have given a message to your commanders that will reach each of you. Nothing can compensate you for the sacrifice. We are grateful and pray that Allah will continue to protect all of you here and all of our troops and volunteers and maintain your strength to remain undefeated. May God grant us lasting peace in Born and Nigeria in general. God bless you.”
Governor Zulum along with the battalion officer commanders also inspected Gurusoye, the village behind the battalion headquarters, which Boko Haram destroyed during their occupation.
Zulum has directed the construction of 200 new homes in the area for the purpose of relocating and creating an aesthetic that will attract a productive population for social and economic renewal.
