Just a few months after the launch of the OPPO Reno4 and Reno4 Pro 5G, the Reno5 series appeared which includes the OPPO Reno5 Pro 5G. Although the Reno4 Pro is a mid-range hardware phone, with the Reno5 Pro the company has decided to go beyond the mid-range and offer higher performance. But the OPPO Reno5 Pro 5G is by no means a better phone than the Reno4 Pro 5G and many people might be confused while evaluating the specifications of these two phones. Which is the best and for what type of user? This comparison will highlight the differences between the specifications of the latest Pro versions from the Reno series.

OPPO has improved the design with the Reno5 Pro 5G. At first glance, the two phones might seem identical, but the OPPO Reno5 Pro 5G offers much more thanks to its prismatic pattern and fluorescent parts that glow in the dark. The Reno Glow color variants are definitely impressive. However, there are no major differences except for the colors and lighting effects provided by the phones. Although the OPPO Reno5 Pro 5G has a larger battery, it has almost the same dimensions as its predecessor: it is as thin as the Reno4 Pro 5G, and even the weight is the same. Both phones are made with a glass back and an aluminum frame, and both have a curved screen on the edges and a design with holes.
The presence of HDR10 + certification on the OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G is very interesting, but the OPPO Reno5 Pro 5G provides more brightness. However, there are only marginal differences between the screens of these two headphones. Both have an on-screen fingerprint scanner and the same 6.55-inch screen size, as well as the same Full HD + resolution with 1080 x 2400 pixels. We recommend that you do not attach so much importance to the display and continue evaluating the other specifications of these phones.
Specifications and software
Here you can find the most important difference: the chipset. The OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G is powered by the Snapdragon 765G mobile platform which is actually a mid-range SoC. OPPO Reno5 Pro 5G offers a leading processor: Dimensity 1000+, actually the best chipset published by MediaTek. The memory configurations are exactly the same: there is one with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory, and one with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of memory. But the software is changing directly: the OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G is based on Android 10 which has adapted ColorOS 7.2, while the OPPO Reno5 Pro 5G runs Android 11 with ColorOS 11.
The OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G is actually a much better camera phone than the OPPO Reno5 Pro 5G. The Reno5 Pro 5G has a mid-range camera compartment that includes a 64 MP main sensor, an 8 MP ultra-wide angle lens and a pair of 2 MP sensors for macros and depth calculation. With the OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G you get a 48 MP main sensor with OIS (Sony IMX586), a 13 MP telephoto sensor with 2x optical zoom and an ultra wide 12 MP camera that also works as a separate video camera. The front cameras are exactly the same: two 32 MP sensors with f / 2.4 focal length. So, despite being an older phone, the OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G is a better phone with a camera. And it’s even one of the best camera phones on the market, especially for those who want to record very nice videos.
Battery capacity is the weakest point of the OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G: it has only 4000 mAh. OPPO Reno5 Pro 5G has a larger battery of 4350 mAh which provides a way to extend battery life. Both phones support 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 fast charging technology which allows them to fully charge at high speed. You only need 36 minutes to charge the OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G from 0 to 100 percent, and only a few minutes more for the Reno5 Pro 5G. Next, the Reno5 Pro 5G has a reverse charge.
The OPPO Reno5 Pro 5G was launched in the Chinese market with a starting price of around € 430 / $ 525: it is not yet available in the global market. The price of the OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G list for the global market is € 799 / $ 975 for a 12/256 GB configuration. If you need the best camera compartment, you should definitely choose the OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G which offers OIS and better secondary sensors for the main camera compartment. But in the rest of the specs, the Reno5 Pro 5G is the winner: it has better hardware and even a bigger battery. The design is similar, and so are the displays, but the Renault 5 Pro is a little better even from this point of view. I would personally choose the OPPO Reno5 Pro 5G.
