The leadership of the National Youth Corps has revealed a report that 16 members of the scheme have been abducted.
In a statement posted on its official Twitter account, the NYSC said the attack took place and was carried out by armed robbers on 17 former corps members who had just completed a plan in Osun state.
The statement said one former corps member traveling from Osun to northern Nigeria died in the attack.
“The real view is that, indeed, the 17 Corps members who completed the 1 B” Stream 1B “orientation program in 2020 at NYSC’s permanent orientation camp, Ede, Osun, on Tuesday, December 22, 2020, boarded vehicles heading north of the country, ”the statement said.
“Tragically, along the Jere-Abuja highway, they were encountered by a gang of armed robbers whose sporadic shootings unfortunately knocked down Bomoi Corps member Sulejman Yusuf.
“It is necessary to say that the other 16 members of the corps were never abducted.
Communicating with the family of the deceased, the NYSC said that “the death of any member of the corps is a great loss, not only for his family, but also for the scheme and the nation as a whole.”
