In Mexico, 11,653 new cases and 816 deaths were reported

Mexico reported 11,653 new confirmed cases of coronavirus infection and 816 additional deaths, bringing the total number in the country to 1,350,079 cases and 120,311 deaths.

The government said the actual number of infected people was probably significantly higher than confirmed cases.

One million Americans vaccinated for Covid-19

Tennessee emerged along with California as the epicenter of the latest Covid-19 raid, even as more than a million Americans were vaccinated as U.S. political leaders sought to protect themselves from the highly contagious variant of the coronavirus spreading through Britain.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Tennessee recorded an average of nearly 128 new infections per 100,000 people last week, the highest of any U.S. state.

California ranked second with 111 new cases per 100,000 population.

“Our state is zero for the Covid-19 wave and we need Tennesseans to (do) their part,” Governor Bill Lee said on Twitter, urging residents to wear face masks and gather only with members of their own household during Christmas.

Singapore confirmed the first case of a new variant of the virus

Singapore confirmed its first case of a new variant of the coronavirus found in the United Kingdom, while 11 others that were already in quarantine returned preliminary positive results for the new strain.

All cases imported from Europe were placed in 14-day quarantine in dedicated facilities or isolated upon arrival, and their close contacts were previously quarantined.

“Currently, there is no evidence that strain B117 is circulating in the community,” said the Singapore Ministry of Health, referring to a new, potentially more contagious strain in the UK.

Singapore is conducting viral genomic sequencing for confirmed cases of Covid-19 that recently arrived from Europe.

The strain was found among 31 cases from Europe, which arrived in Singapore between November 17 and December 17, and it was confirmed that they have Covid-19 this month.

South Korea is reporting 985 new cases

South Korea has reported 985 new cases of coronavirus, the Korean Agency for Disease Control and Prevention said.

This leads to a number of 53,533, with 756 deaths.

South Korea managed to keep cases at a relatively low level during the previous two waves of infection, but the third wave proved much more challenging for contact clues as it emerged in the densely populated region of the capital.
