The national leader of the Congress of All Progressives (APC), Senator Bola Tinubu, called on Nigerians to let goodness rule while celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ.
Tinubu, in a Christmas message Thursday in Lagos, also asked everyone to put in their hearts and minds a commitment to be more tolerant and less judgmental of their comrades.
The leader of the APC called on everyone to help those who are without, instead of blaming people for the situation they found themselves in.
He said: “Do not criticize those who currently lack goodness; give them bread and meat, not bitterness and despair.
Congratulating the Christians, Tinubu explained that Christmas is a day to be thankful for because Jesus Christ has given us a precious gift.
He called everyone to act in the spirit and teachings of Jesus.
The former governor of Lagos called on Nigerians to celebrate in moderation and adhere to all COVID-19 protocols to limit the spread of the disease.
“I must beg you to give up such large gatherings this year for the sake of our collective health.
“Basically, Christmas is a celebration of life, and this year we celebrate life best by doing what we have to do to protect ourselves and our loved ones from this terrible virus.
“However, we must also take comfort in the fact that nothing, not even this virus, can deprive us of the spirit of Christmas and the hope and brotherly love it represents.
“With the advent of the coronavirus, 2020 was like a plane flying through a turbulent sky, a year that raised challenges like no other year.
“Yet, by the grace of God, we have persevered and will continue to move forward,” he said
Tinubu noted that at normal times Christmas gave Nigerians of all faiths the opportunity to gather with family and friends to celebrate the birth of Jesus.
“Unfortunately, COVID came to steal a lot from us.
“But if we act in the spirit of Jesus, we will overcome this disease and other troubles that it wants to impose on us.
“Despite everything we have been through, let goodness reign in this period.
“We put in our hearts and minds the determination to be more tolerant and less judgmental of our neighbors.
“As the pressures of this year try to bring us down, we must adhere to Jesus’ teachings and manners to uplift ourselves and this great nation.
“By doing so, we are not only celebrating the birth of Jesus, but we are celebrating his life and the divine reason he came to live among us,” the APC leader said.
According to Tinubu, it is difficult to say “Merry Christmas”, because the moment we live in today is not subject to joy.
However, he wished all Nigerians a peaceful, robust and meaningful Christmas.
“I pray that we will treat each other as Jesus commanded.
“If we succeed, from the current turbulence we will become much better people, society and nation,” he said.
