Man City duo Gabriel Jesus and Kyle Walker positive on Covid-19

Manchester City announced that Gabriel Jesus and Kyle Walker tested positive for Covid-19.

The duo – along with two unnamed staff members – will now go through a period of self-isolation.

City host Newcastle at the Etihad on Boxing Day, but will be without striker Jesus and defender Walker.

In a statement, the club said: “FC Manchester City can confirm that Gabriel Jesus, Kyle Walker and two staff members are positive on COVID-19.

“All four staff will now observe a period of self-isolation in line with the Premier League and the UK Government’s quarantine protocol.

“Everyone at the club wishes our colleagues a speedy recovery during the Christmas period ahead of their return to work, training and competition.”

Jesus played regularly for City in the absence of Sergio Aguero, but he was not as prolific as he or boss Pep Guardiola would have liked.

He has only four goals in 15 games in all competitions in this term, and he ended the drought when he scored a goal against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup in the middle of the week.

English defender Walker is also a regular Blues player, playing 18 times in all competitions and scoring a goal at former club Sheffield United to give City three points at Bramall Lane earlier in the campaign.
