Written by Duku Joel, Maiduguri

On Tuesday night, many people feared after a heavy explosion and gun battle between Boko Haram rebels and security operatives in Maiduguri, the state capital of Borno.

The victim is not clear at the moment, but reports indicate that the rebels tried to launch an attack on Maiduguri University from the northeast behind a military trench behind the university.

Residents said the attack caused a pandemonium around settlements like Mairi, Kaleri and Constein that share a fence with the University.

Residents of Kalerija have reported that explosions have exploded in the area, but cannot know if there have been any deaths.

“People are just running in no direction. The explosions were coming from our area. What I can’t say is whether people died, “said the source.

The Nation reports that for more than a year, Boko Haram rebels have made efforts to handle such an attack on metropolis Maiduguri.

None of the students contacted from Maiduguri University answered the calls.

There are also no details about security operatives yet.
