Lagos State Police Commissioner Hakeem Odumosu redirected CSP Francis Ani, a departmental police officer to the Onipanu department and some of his officers for harassing and illegally detaining activist Tunde Abass and one Kabir Mohammed.
Tunde was arrested by police officers on Sunday for filming them in the operation.
A video broadcast live on his Facebook account saw a police officer trying to harass a young man driving a wine-colored car.
Tundea was heard shouting from all voices and telling the officer not to harass the man because he had “provided the necessary documents”.
“You’re trying to intimidate the guy. His tires burst. The boy had flat tires. They are trying to intimidate the guy, ”he said.
There was also a policeman addressing a man he said was harassing him as “stupid.” But Tunde addressed him to say “this is an injustice”.
The source said that the policeman activist was severely tortured and dehumanized while he was in custody.
SaharaReporters gathered that Ani, who is said to be known for brutalizing citizens, also violated a court order that Tundea should be released.
Police Public Relations Officer Adejobi Olumuyiwa said in a statement Thursday that the commissioner had ordered all police officers involved in the unprofessional act to be tried in a tidy room to hand down sentences accordingly, and that the DPO had been redeployed to the State Headquarters. command, Ikeja.
The statement read: “Police in the Onipan department have accused Tunde Abbas of filming the harassment and violent arrest of Kabir Mohammed in the area of Onipan state on Friday, March 19, 2021 around 5pm after Tunde’s intervention in a case that is not well agreed with police officers.
“The Commissioner of Police has condemned such an act of unprofessionalism and excessive use of power in order to send a signal to the whole world that the Command will not justify such an act for any reason; and serve as a deterrent to other police officers who like to harass, blackmail, and engage in lawlessness, unprofessionalism, and gross human rights violations in the state.
“CP Hakeem Odumosu also ordered that the police officers in question be tried in a non-professional manner in a tidy room in order to be sentenced accordingly, while the DPO is redeployed to the State Command Headquarters, Ikea.”
