Kelly Olynyk, Rockets defeats Mavericks

Kelly Olynyk scored 10 points and knocked down 18 career rebounds to help the Houston Rockets maintain a 102-93 win over visiting Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday.

Olynyk grabbed two critical rebounds down the move after his three-point lead put the Rockets in a 89-84 lead of 3:38.

Luka Dončić pulled out the Mavericks as much as 63 seconds later, before Olynyk was followed by an offensive rebound brought by John Wall. When Doncic missed a 3-point attempt on the other side, Olynyk broke the glass and Wall followed by playing three points that lifted the Rockets to a 94-89 lead.

Houston skipped five games as it ended Dallas ’best of the season, a winning streak of five games.

Olynyk added three assists, two stolen balls and two blocks to his book. Wall finished with 31 points, seven assists and four steals. Christian Wood of Houston added 22 points – including the team’s introductory 12 points in the third quarter – and 10 rebounds.

Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis scored 23 points each for the Mavericks. Doncic missed 17 of 26 attempts and made five turnovers. Tim Hardaway Jr. added 18 points, Jalen Brunson had 14 points and Porzingis grabbed 12 boards.

In announcing things that were supposed to happen in the opening half, it was more than nine minutes in the first quarter before anyone other than Doncic or Porzingis scored for the Mavericks and Hardaway drilled the fish at 2:26 p.m. . When Hardaway turned from depth again into possession that followed, Dallas erased the former 10-point deficit and led 20-19.

Houston followed after a strong start by Wall and Kevin Porter Jr.. Olynyk grabbed eight rebounds before scoring the first goal on the field with 3:49 in the second quarter.

Olynyk then tracked Porter’s successive training sessions with 3 points, raising Houston to a 47-38 lead. Dallas reduced that margin to five points by breaking with little production outside of Doncic, Porzingis and Hardaway. Starters Dorian Finney-Smith, Nicolo Melli and Josh Richardson combined by shooting 0:12 for a break before the break, and ended the night with a combined 3 for 20 for 12 points.
