A 23-year-old student at the Federal Technical School of Education, Akoka, Lagos State, Dare Williams, was arrested for hijacking a vehicle from a driver who was serving a call.
Williams said he committed the crime because he desperately wanted to present either David or Runtown on his music album.
The suspect, an upcoming musician, allegedly lured his friend Bethel Chukwuocha, 18, to snatch a Toyota Corolla car from driver Clement Aniegbe on Monday night.
The duo ordered a ride to transport them from Lekki to the Gbagad area on the mainland of Lagos.
However, while traveling to the desired destination, the suspects threatened the driver with a knife and drove away the car and mobile phone.
During questioning, Williams reportedly told police that his search for money to feature superstars on his album led him to a robbery.
He added that he planned to sell the car for N1 million and use the money to advance his music career.
Parading the suspects in front of reporters on Wednesday, Lagos State Police Commissioner Hakeem Odumosu said the indictees would be indicted in court at the end of the investigation.
He said, “They used a knife and some substances suspected of being sedatives to weaken the victim.
“The suspects claim to be students of the Federal College of Education Yaba-Lagos.
“The suspects were arrested by police detectives at the Sabo police station, Lagos state, on Tuesday, December 22, in the town of Sabo, while they were on a routine patrol. Detectives found a car and a knife used for the operation.
“The case is under investigation and will be forwarded to the state CID for further investigation.”
