Attorney General and Justice Minister Abubakar Malami said he had not launched legal action against the citizenship of former Nigerian Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
Malami said that in the statement of Dr. Umar Gwandu, his special assistant for media and public relations, in Abuja on Wednesday.
“I have never filed a single case before any court in the country challenging the citizenship of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar,” he said.
He said that the disputed issue is part of the pre-election issues for 2019 initiated by the Civil Society Organization – United Commissioners of the Egalitarian Mission for Africa – in lawsuit no .: FHC / ABJ / CS / 177/2019.
He said Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), the Independent National Election Commission (INEC) and the Federation State Attorney’s Office have become co-defendants in this regard.
He mentioned that the media have been reporting about it extensively since April 2019.
“It is unfortunate that stale news that can cause confusion is being repackaged and presented to the general public as current news,” the minister said.
