Hull City 2-2 Sunderland – BBC Sport

Hull City is at a touch distance from the automatic passage to the Championship after a draw with third-placed Sunderland.

An immediate return to the second tier can be secured by a win over Lincoln on Saturday after Josh Magennis ’goals twice dragged City back into parity.

Sunderland took the lead in the 10th minute after Jordan Jones – a few moments after hitting the crossbar with his head – skillfully scored a cross by Lynden Gooch.

Magennis equalized 18 minutes later when he turned the delivery of Mallik Wilks with a smart header look.

Hull was once again against it, after Grant Leadbitter scored a penalty in the 34th minute after Callum Elder controversially ruled that he had made Gooch’s attempt to cross.

Sunderland were the better side in the first half, but Hull offered a lot more in the final third after a restart.

And the second goal that their attacking strength deserved was scored by another smart header by Magennis from the right wing of the Wilks in the 64th minute.

Sunderland were able to win it though when Aiden O’Brien’s substitution hit the crossbar with his head at death.
