Mason Mount will be the guaranteed starter of England at Euro 2020 this summer.
That is the position of former Chelsea defender Ashley Cole, who sent a clear message to Gareth Southgate ahead of the triple qualification for the World Cup of Three Lions this week.
Mount is in the squad – along with club teammates Reece James and Ben Chilwell – for the upcoming games against San Marino, Albania and Poland, while England will soon be flying.
But Cole already has one eye on events this summer, especially who will make the starting XI for Euro 2020 Group D against Croatia against Croatia on June 13th.
The competition for midfield positions will be fierce this summer, and among them are Declan Rice, Jordan Henderson, Phil Foden and Calvin Phillips.
Still, they will compete for nine other pitches, as Cole believes Mount will be the first name on Southgate’s team.
“He’s whole. He has everything, his running schedule, his understanding of when to get between the lines, playing forward, it’s his awareness, he’s always scanning, he’s always on the front leg, he can run back and forth,” Cole said ahead of Chelsea’s win. with a 2-0 FA Cup in the quarterfinals over Sheffield United at the weekend.
“He still needs to add a few more goals to his game, but other than that, I think he’s first on Gareth Southgate’s team list to go to the World Cup or Euro.
“He has to play. He’s the best for me.”

Mount has played an integral part of Chelsea this season, becoming a key player under Frank Lampard, and then proving himself to new head coach Thomas Tuchel in recent weeks.
The 22-year-old midfielder has already made 39 appearances in all competitions and will hopefully remain uninjured from now until the summer.
In this regard, Tuchel will want his midfielder to return to Chelsea after the international break unharmed, as his side has some big games on the horizon.
