Former Minister of Education and former National President of the Association of Nigerian Authors, prof. Jerry Agada is dead.
Agada was said to have died Tuesday at the Makurdi Federal Medical Center.
An unconfirmed report says Agada may have died as a result of complications from COVID-19.
He was said to have been admitted to the FMC a week before being transferred to the Federal Medical Center’s isolation center, Apir, Makurdi, where he died Tuesday around 8 p.m.
The source said: “He was taken to an isolation center where he died after the results of tests performed on him came.
Our correspondent gathered that the chairman of the state committee for COVID-19 and deputy governor Benson Abounu insisted that Agada be tested for coronavirus.
Information Commissioner and State Committee spokesperson for COVID-19, Ms. Ngunan Adingi, confirmed the death of the former minister.
The commissioner said, “Professor Agada is dead, but I do not know the cause of his death, let me make contact and I will get back to you.
But the commissioner could not be available at the time of submitting this report.
Professor Agada, born in 1952, retired as Permanent Secretary of State before being appointed Minister of State for Education during the administration of President Umar Yar’Adue.
Until his death, he was chairman of the State Civil Service Commission in Benue.
