Former Army Chief of Staff Ihejirika joined the APC

The former Chief of the General Staff of the Army, Colonel General Azubuike Ihejirika (rtd), formally joined the Congress of All Progressives (APC) yesterday.

Ihejirika, who was chief of the Army General Staff between 2010 and 2014 under former President Goodluck Jonathan, made the statement that he would join the APC at the Isuikwuato village house in the Senate district of Abia-North.

His joining the party has heightened speculation that he could run for governor in the state in 2023, as power is expected to move to northern Abija in line with Abia’s capital charter.

Ihejirika registered at the Ezera 2 department under the supervision of the chairman of the APC department, Mr. Iheanyi Chukwu, in the presence of permanent parties including: Senator Orji Uzor Kalu; The State Secretary of the party, Mr. Perfect Okorie; Deputy State Leader of the Party, Lady Franca Osuwa; Chairman, Abia APC Registration Commission, Bala Ambassador Mohammed Mairiga; Chief Ameobi Ogah; Dr. Lilian Obenwa; APC Zonal Chairman Abia-North, Chief Chris Ajah; Member of Parliament of the Assembly of Abia representing the constituency of Isuikwuato Hon Barr. Emeka Okorofor, party believers and others.

In his remark, Senator Kalu welcomed the decision of the former COAS to join the party.

Kalu emphasized that Ihejirika’s decision was the result of internal democracy in the APC.

According to him, “General Ihejirika’s decision to join us today at the APC is without a doubt excellent and I must commend him for a brave step after more than a year of persuading him to join the party.

“He needs to be convinced that his membership in our party will be very fruitful. I am loyal to the party, so I have always undergone a party decision-making process.

“My gratitude also goes to the President of the Abia APC Registration Committee, Amb. Bala Mohammed Mairiga and his team joined me to help me with this exercise ”.
