Ohanaeze Ndigbo Secretary General Barr Uche Okwukwu said the current crisis that is shaking the group is a threat to the Southeast presidency coming in 2023.
Okwukwu, who was waging a battle with Nnia boss Nwodo Ohanaze, told reporters in Enugu.
He said that the top socio-cultural organization Igbo was also moving towards the inevitable factualization.
Recall, Ohanaze led by Nwod said he was suspended, but Okwukwu said he remained the scribe of Igba’s umbrella body.
However, reacting to the recent inauguration of new members of the Ohanaeze Electoral Committee, Uche said the newly formed committee was headed by former Ohanaeze president, Garry Enwo Igariwey, and that he had erred in the process. He insisted that any action taken by the board would be in vain.
According to him, “The alleged Imeobi where they established the election committee is null and void because only the secretary general has the authority to do so under the Ohanaeza Constitution.
“An illegal meeting was held and they set up an election committee, which in my humble opinion is illegal, you can’t put anything on anything.
“In the state of Imo, they even set up a selection commission, which came out and said that they had nominated Obiozor, they even warned everyone to run, except Obiozor, otherwise the person would be expelled. That is unacceptable. ”
He also erred in the timing of the election, noting that, “our term ends on January 10, 2021, technically speaking, we have about 20 days until the end of our term, this election committee would be established some three months before you continue to draw guidelines, check some candidates because these days you have to review everything for the issuance of certificates in the country.
“What is quite frightening is that the candidates will run the campaign, but who are the delegates; even INEC publishes a voter list; Nwodo campaign in the United States, you meet delegates, but in this case there is no list; who are you going to talk to now? There is fear, plans to manipulate elections.
“I am afraid that there may be parallel Ohanaeze; if something goes wrong, those who are damaged can post parallel Ohanaeze, and I have warned, those who want to make a mistake should know that they cannot dominate the space. God forbid that there is a parallel Ohanaze, in order to perceive Igbo, won’t they perceive us as people who are scattered?
“If there is a parallel Ohanaze, it will survive very well, but it will send the wrong signal that we are not united and that the Igbo presidency will fail because we need the whole Igbo race to come together and speak with one voice. The crack that will lead to rationalization will not be in Ohanaeze’s interest, it will undermine us.
“We will probably lose the presidency in 2023, because even as we talk now, our house is still not in order.”
While calling on the elders of Igba to stand up and save the body, he announced that another Imeobi would be held on December 31, 2020, during which another election committee would be established, as well as a transitional committee to run Ohanaeze’s affairs for the next 6 months.
