April 8 (UPI) – Raquel González won the first night of the WWE NXT Takeover: Stand and Deliver, becoming the new NXT women’s champion.
González faced Io Shirai for the main event title on Wednesday. The second night of Stand and Deliver takes place on Thursday at 8pm EDT in Peacock. Shirai became the NXT women’s champion in June 2020.
González arrived in the ring with teammate Dakota Kai, who was quickly kicked out of the ring by the referee after she tried to interfere in the match.
The genius of heaven pulled all the stations against Gonzales by running Moonsault with the top rope causing her opponent to crash into the entrance ramp. Shirai then climbed to a top 20 feet high and released a skull that was near the entrance ramp.
Shirai jumped off the structure and landed with her body right on top of González. Shirai, returning to the ring, dropped another Moonsault, but that was still not enough to win the match. González recovered and planted the champion with a one-armed bomb outside the ring.
González delivered another Power-bomb with one hand and then pinned Shirai to become the new NXT women’s champion. González was celebrating amid fireworks and fog as Stand and Deliver emerged from the air.
Also in Stand and Deliver, Tommaso Ciampa took on the seemingly unstoppable Walter for the UK NXT Championship. Walter holds that title for more than two years.
Tall Walter and Ciampa had an extremely competitive and physical match. Walter showed his impressive strength by accidentally slapping his hand on the speaker’s desk as he fought Ciampa. The attack cracked in the middle, but Walter injured his arm.
Ciampa focused on Walter’s arm and even managed to lower Bike’s end from the other rope, but Walter didn’t want to stay down.
Ring General ended the match with a pair of PowerBombs followed by German Suplex and Chop to remain the NXT champion of the United Kingdom.
A Gauntlet eliminator match was held to determine who will face North American champion Johnny Gargan in two nights of Stand and Deliver. Isaiah “Swerve” Scott and Leon Ruff started the match, in which a new grab entered every 3 minutes.
Scott attacked Ruff during his entrance. The couple was soon joined by Bronson Reed and Cameron Grimes, who handed Scott cash so they could work together. Scott eliminated Ruff, followed by Dexter Lumis, followed by LA Knight, who was the last to enter the match.
Knight eliminated Lumis by pinning him as he put Grimes in his signature Lumis Silence. Reed then eliminated Knight, and Scott pinned Grimes by pulling his tights.
Reed withstood a number of Scott’s strong blows before winning Gauntlet with Tsunami.
Other moments from Stand and Deliver included Zoey Stark who beat Tony Storm during the show; Pete Dunne defeats Kushida; and MSK won the vacant NXT team championship by defeating Grizzled Young Veterans and Legado del Fantasma.
