Despite a desperate denial from the Ministry of Civil Service, more facts have emerged about how DSS officers tortured police officer Said Afaku, the official driver of President Muhammad Bukhari, for a $ 30,000 job.
SaharaReporters have learned that DSS staff questioned Afaku over a $ 30,000 deal involving the Nigerian National Oil Corporation.
SaharaReporters have learned that he approached him to ask Bukhari to approve payments for NNPC contracts.
It was gathered that Afaka’s name was also changed and the pseudonym was entered in the DSS records after his arrest, in order to prevent the case from leaking to the public and embarrassing the presidency.
SaharaReporters exclusively reported on Wednesday that Afaka was tortured by the DSS before being rushed to a State House clinic in Abuja, where he later died.
Top sources revealed to this paper that Afaka, who was arrested by the DSS for tricking the director into signing a fake document to earn millions of naira, was abandoned in a two-bedroom apartment in the Aso Drive DSS apartments and fell ill, even before he was a $ 30,000 deal.
“Because of his treatment, he was tempted to make an agreement. People asked why Bukhari left him at the Aso Rock clinic, while he selfishly ran to London to provide himself with first-class medical care.
“When the business leaked and the DSS arrested him, they refused to collect his records and detained him under a false name in order to avoid the story leaking,” the main source revealed.
Sources told SaharaReporters that when Afaka deteriorated during the torture in the DSS, he was transferred again to the poorly equipped State House clinic.
Explaining how the business started, one of the sources said: “He approached the driver to ask Bukhari to approve payments for some contracts of the Nigerian National Oil Corporation. He was also arrested and detained by the DSS; he was soon fired. The former ADC from Bukhari reported to the DSS.
“Afaka was arrested with Bukhari’s chief officer for details, Ya’u, the chief sergeant in the army. Since Afaka’s release four months ago, Afaka has been ill and doctors have attended her. The clinic does not have medical equipment, despite huge allocations for it annually.
“Afaka lived and died in a two-room apartment in the Aso Drive DSS apartments. His associates are furious that, despite his services, Bukhari has refused to provide him with the proper medical care he has provided for himself. “
The presidency announced Afaka’s death on Tuesday, announcing that he had died after a long illness.
A statement by presidential spokesman Garbe Shehu, however, avoided the grim fact that Afaka’s condition worsened after the DSS tortured him for tricking Bukhari into signing a multimillion-dollar naira agreement.
In a statement, Bukhari expressed his sincere condolences to the family of the deceased.
The statement read: “President Muhammadu Buhari expresses his sincere condolences to the Afaka family for the departure of Chief of Police Sa’id Afaka, his official driver, who died Tuesday at the State House Clinic after a long illness.
“President Bukhari, who also works with the government and people of Kaduna State, described the late Afaka as an honest, capable and reliable person who did his job with the utmost care and responsibility.
“The president reminds that in 2016, a soldier, making a pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia, picked up a bag containing a large amount of foreign currency and handed it over to the National Hajj Commission, an action that brought praise from the Saudi and Nigerian authorities.
“President Bukhari prays to Almighty Allah to ‘bless the soul of the deceased with an exalted place in the heavens,’ obliging family and friends to divine consolation and patience.”
Afaka’s death comes days after SaharaReporters revealed how he capitalized on Bukhari’s dementia to trick him into signing a fake document earning millions of naira.
