It’s been just over a year since Korean director Bong Joon-ho set his standard for the meaning of producing a compelling thriller film to his award-winning Parasite. After winning the best film at last year’s Oscars, fans of the slow-motion cinema director have been eagerly awaiting the new project – and it’s no surprise what Bong plans to deliver.
“I feel like I’m splitting my brain in half left and right writing these two scripts. But I finished last week, “Bong explained in the episode Directing cut a podcast earlier this month as it announced its plans to produce not one, but two sequels to the internationally acclaimed film.
So far, not much has been revealed about the plot of the two films, however, Bong has confirmed that one film will be written in Korean and the other in English.
The award-winning director also added that “Korean film is located in Seoul and has unique elements of horror and action,” but also noted that “it is difficult to define the genre of my films”.
On the other hand, the English-language project will be based on the “true event that took place in 2016.” And while Bong insists he won’t know exactly where the project will be filmed, he expects it to take place half in the UK and half in United States.
In addition to two additional films, Bong is currently developing English Parasite HBO’s series with director Adam McKay – who is expected to take advantage of some discarded ideas from the film’s original script.
Although the news was confirmed not about one, but about two Parasite the sequel is a cause for excitement for Bong movie fans, it’s still not clear when the movies will start shooting, let alone be released to the public. The director remains narrow-lipped regarding certain details, but as iD points out in a recent report, most of Bong’s films were released within two years of each other – so chances are high that we will make at least one of the two films as soon as 2022.
