British Columbia invited 494 immigrant candidates in two separate draws of the provincial nominated program held on February 16, 2021.
A total of 459 invitations went to candidates from the current Skills Immigration (SI) and Express Entry BC (EEBC) from the British Columbia Nominees Program (BC PNP). Specifically, invitations were issued to candidates in skilled workers, international graduates, as well as in the initial and semi-qualified subcategories of SI and EEBC flows.
The minimum points for this draw ranged between 85 and 104 points.
Another 35 calls were made to candidates working as retail and wholesale managers, as well as restaurant and restaurant managers. The province said it carried out this draw because “both occupations have a large number of registrants within the BC PNP Skills Immigration Registration System”.
The province has also announced it will start inviting candidates for occupations in the fields of tourism, hospitality, retail and personal services, which it has excluded from recent draws.
The province has now held nine draws, bringing the total number of calls issued to date to 1,308 in 2021.
About BC PNP
BC PNP aims to attract foreign workers who are in high demand in the province and who want to become permanent residents of Canada.
BC PNP has two immigration streams, Immigration Skills and Express Entry, both divided into subcategories. Both streams are managed through BC’s Immigration Skills Registration System (SIRS). To log in via SIRS, you must first register an account. Once this is done, you will be awarded a score based on factors such as education, work experience and language skills.
Candidates with the best score from each subcategory are then invited to apply for a provincial nomination that will apply for permanent residence when British Columbia performs one of its regular draws.
If you receive a call, you will have 30 days from the date of the call to submit a complete application through the BC PNP network system.
After you submit a complete package of PNP PNP applications, you will be notified of the province’s decision within approximately two to three months. If your nomination is successful, you become eligible to apply to Canada for Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship (IRCC) for permanent residency status according to the provincial class of nominees. The nomination is valid for approximately six months from the date of confirmation.
Express Entry BC current
The EEBC stream connects to the federal Express Entry immigration application management system. Candidates for quick access give points based on human capital factors such as age, work experience, education and knowledge of English or French under the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). They must also meet the minimum criteria for one of the IRCC Express Entry programs:
As a provincial nominee, you can earn an additional 600 points according to the CRS and therefore have a high enough score to receive an invitation to apply (ITA) during the subsequent draw for the Federal Express.
Express Express draws continue to be held regularly, despite current border closures and travel restrictions. Last Saturday, the IRCC held an unprecedented Main Entry draw and called a record number of 27,332 Express Entry candidates in one day.
