Batman HBO Max Spinoff Gotham PD Showrunner addresses comparison to FOX’s Gotham

Last summer HBO Max announced that the Gotham PD spinoff series will come to streamer with a series set in the world created Batman directed by Matt Reeves. Since that world was very early in Batman’s story, many couldn’t help but marvel at how similar it was to that of Fox Gotham the upcoming series will be such that this series is also set at the beginning of the Batman story Gotham it acted as a prequel and offered stories of the origins of many of the characters that are central to the myths of Batman. Now showrunner for HBO Max’s Gotham PD Joe Barton is dealing with a comparison of the two series.

On Twitter, Barton was asked how different Gotham PD will be compared to Gotham and although Barton did not offer any concrete details, he had a very direct answer: “very different.”

Gotham ran five seasons on Fox and began with James Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and his partner Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue) who worked to solve the murder of Bruce Wayne’s parents in Season 1 and evolved over the seasons to include Bruce’s (David Mazouz) story and ultimately the origins of Batman and his gallery of thieves.

As for Gotham PD, generally speaking, we don’t have a lot of details about that series at the moment, and most of what was revealed about the series comes from Reeves during last year’s DC FanDome event.

“The idea of the story was a story where Gotham has such a depth of corruption, and then the idea that we could actually make a series that goes deeper into one aspect of it, and that in this case is the corrupt police administration and the city’s internal work,” Reeves said. “The idea is to go back to the first year, and the first year is the beginning of the creation and the first appearance of this masked awakener who starts disturbing the city, and you start to see the story from the point of view of these corrupt policemen and one in particular. his soul. “

Reeves also said there will be brand new characters in the series, as well as more familiar characters that viewers will get into in more detail.

“It’s like realizing that this myth-building is in the background, you’re actually in a new place where you’ve never seen these characters before – from which we’ll touch on what you may have seen from the comics – but others totally go down the avenue and get into the details of what you couldn’t in the movie and get into places like this rich, ”Reeves said.
