Barcelona’s position on the transfer of Shkodra to Mustafi, while Arsenal are planning their January plans

Barcelona will not withdraw the move to sign Arsenal defender Shkodra Mustafi understands.

The German defender’s contract at Emirates expires at the end of this season after he turned down an offer to extend.

After initially establishing himself as a key part of Mikel Arteta’s first-team plans after the Spaniard’s arrival a year ago, Mustafi has had a hard time this season due to injury and Gabriel’s arrival for the summer.

As a result, he wants to leave the club soon, and the Spanish giant Barcelona was one of many clubs associated with his signature.

But he may now discover that La Blaugrana is not interested.

Ronaldo Koeman’s team has struggled in the league this season and currently ranks 5th in La Liga, eight points behind leaders Atletico Madrid, although he has played a game more.

After Gerard Pique suffered a knee ligament injury last month that could keep him up for five months, it is understood that they will be on the market for the central defender in January.

Given the financial constraints associated with COVID that are currently for the Spanish giants – who currently have the highest wage bill in world football – it was thought that Mustafi, who will be available for a relatively low fee, would fit that bill.

But an internal source in Barcelona has confirmed ‘100%’ that he will not join Barcelona. It goes without saying that the German was offered to La Blaugrana, but they are looking for a different player profile.

This is contrary to quotes that surfaced on Wednesday, claiming that Mustafi’s agent was staying in Barcelona and trying to take a step for his client.

Emre Ozturk was photographed in front of the Nou Camp in an Instagram story with the caption: ‘Ready for a meeting.’

When asked later to explain the announcement, he told Fox Sports reporter Fabian Zerche: “I’m not in Barcelona because of Yusuf Demir, but because of Shkodra Mustafi from Arsenal, who we also represent.”

However, it now seems as if the five-time Champions League winners will be looking elsewhere to bolster their central defensive options, and Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger has reportedly been high on their target list.
